What's In My Hospital Bag (mama addition)

When it came to packing for myself, I wanted to feel prepared but not overpack. Every mama’s needs are different, but after talking with friends, doing research, and reflecting on what’s truly helpful in those first few days, I narrowed it down to these essentials. These are the items I feel will make me the most comfortable and supported as I recover and adjust to life with a newborn.

Packing your hospital bag doesn’t have to be complicated. For me, comfort, recovery, and practicality were the priorities. These essentials are what I’m counting on to help me feel a little more like myself during such a big transition. Every mama’s bag will look different, but I hope this list helps guide you in deciding what to bring for your own stay.

Toiletry Bag
Having a pre-packed toiletry bag keeps all the basics in one place (toothbrush, toothpaste, hair ties, lip balm, deodorant, face wipes, nipple balm, etc). Hospital stays can be unpredictable, so having travel-sized versions of your daily essentials makes freshening up simple and stress-free. I personally love this bag which is super affordable and cute.

Headphones
Sometimes you’ll want to tune out the noise of the hospital or relax with calming music, podcasts, or even guided meditations. A good pair of headphones makes it easier to focus on rest and stay calm. Instead of purchasing the super expensive headphones from Apple or Sony, I have loved the Skull Candy Wireless ones.

Nursing Bras
Comfortable nursing bras are a must for easy feeding and support. They’re soft, stretchy, and practical for the constant feeds during those first few days. I would bring 2-3 in case you leak through them. I personally did not want to spend a lot on nursing bras, so I found the best ones on Amazon that come in a pack of 3 and also have extenders if you need a little extra room.

Labour Comb
It might sound strange, but a comb can be a great pain management tool during labor. Holding and squeezing it can provide counter-pressure and distraction, helping you cope through contractions naturally. I wanted to try this technique out during labour so I bought one for pretty cheap.

Soft PJs
Hospital gowns are convenient, but nothing beats slipping into your own soft pyjamas. I chose button-down PJs for comfort and easy nursing access.

Thin Soft Robe
A lightweight robe is perfect for layering. It keeps you cozy while still being easy to move around in, whether you’re walking the halls or snuggling baby in bed.

Tucks Pads
These cooling pads are postpartum lifesavers. They’re soothing, help with swelling, and provide instant relief for soreness or stitches after delivery.

Frida Mom Postpartum Kit
This kit has everything you will need for recovery: disposable underwear, ice packs, peri bottle, healing foam, and wipes. Having it all in one organized set takes the guesswork out of postpartum care and ensures I’m prepared for those first few days of healing. This would also be an amazing item to put on your baby registry!!
